2015-05-12

1.  競賽簡介Summary:
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) is honored to be invited to co-host the 14th National Challenge Cup, with the Guangdong University of Technology (GDUT). This is the first time in the Cup’s 25-year history that a university outside the Mainland is invited to co-host this prestigious COMPETITION.
The National Challenge Cup is China’s foremost innovation and technology competition for university students to present their scientific and technological inventions. Each year, more than 2.5 million students from over 3,000 institutions nationwide compete in qualifying rounds first at the Municipal-level, then at the Provincial-level, for a coveted position in the Grand Finals. This rigorous biennial COMPETITION is often called the ‘Olympiad of University Students’.
The Grand Finals for the different events will be held between July and November, 2015, and HKUST is pleased to host the finals of the newly-introduced ‘Theme-based Competition’ event.
This new Theme-based Competition event adds a different dimension to the overall COMPETITION. This year’s theme is ‘Smart Green Cities’. Students are required to apply their knowledge in science, technology, social-economics, urban planning, public administration, etc. to propose innovative ideas and solutions to transform a city or part of a city in their home country to become a ‘Smart Green City’, to improve its efficiency, sustainability, attractiveness, and competitiveness.
