中央研究院國際事務辦公室定期舉行國際研究生學程-大師講座系列(TIGP-DLS)，邀請院士、國內外著有聲譽之學者擔任講座。
本講座系列，讓學生有機會與國內、外各領域之傑出學者互動，開拓學生視野並增進其國際觀，進而引導其思索創新研究方向。演講以英語進行，希望貴校有興趣師生能踴躍報名聽講。

With pleasure, TIGP would like to invite you to the 2010 TIGP Distinguished Lecture Series – “Intelligence: Machine vs. Human” by Dr. Wen-Lian Hsu on Friday, November 12, 2010.
Dr. Wen-Lian Hsu received his Ph.D. from Cornell University in 1980. After the postdoctoral training at Universite Catholique de Louvain, Belgium, Dr. Hsu joined Northwestern University and focused his research on graph algorithms. Dr. Hsu was recruited to the Institute of Information Science of Academia Sinica and initiated the project “intelligent Chinese phonetic input system”, aiming at resolving a major bottleneck in the computerization of Chinese language. A software resulted from this project, 自然輸入法(GOING), was selected as one of the ten best Chinese computer products of Taiwan in 1993. Later, Dr. Hsu moved into the research of Intelligent Agent on the Internet, and produced the Math. Problem Solving Agent and a Chinese natural language Q & A system, @skbots. Recently, Dr. Hsu invented the PC-tree data structure to design very efficient algorithms in planar graphs and intersection graphs. In the meantime, he has applied similar techniques to tackle computational problems in Biology such as error-tolerant algorithms in DNA sequence analysis, Genome knowledge base and intelligent knowledge management systems. Dr. Hus’s research achievements have been acknowledged by winning several important awards including Teco-Award, NSC Appointed Outstanding Research Award and Pan Wen Yuan Distinguished Research Award.
In this coming lecture, Dr. Hsu will be sharing his decades of research experience in the development of artificial intelligence and how it has help to broaden research spectrums as well as improve research quality in various disciplines.
