Harvard-Yenching Institute & Regional Studies - East Asia

Master’s Program Fellowship at Harvard University
This multi-year full fellowship covers the two-year master’s degree in Harvard’s Regional Studies - East Asia (RSEA) program plus the first year of a doctoral degree program (in humanities or social sciences with a focus on East Asia) at an approved university.

Eligibility:
This fellowship is for Asian nationals who are committed to pursuing a Ph.D. as preparation for an academic career and who plan to return to Asia to teach upon completion of their graduate studies. Applicants who hold degrees from English-medium universities located outside of Asia are ineligible.

How to apply:
There is no direct application for the fellowship. Instead, candidates should apply directly for admission to Harvard’s RSEA Program (see below) and will automatically be considered for the fellowship. Nominations for the fellowship are made solely by the RSEA admissions committee.

About the RSEA A.M. Program at Harvard:
RSEA is a vibrant interdisciplinary area studies program designed to accommodate a wide range of interests and needs for graduate training in the languages, societies and cultures of East Asia. The program offers additional course preparation and mentorship for promising students in order to make them more competitive for admission to leading Ph.D. programs. The world of academia in both humanities and social sciences is a key component that has traditionally defined RSEA’s identity and continues to be part of RSEA’s mission today.
